Issue with searching/apostrophes?
If I search for ‘I Don’t Wanna Be Me’ by Type O Negative it finds no results after I type the apostrophe in Don’t. It will list the song if I type I Don but not Don’t or Don’t
This occurs on iOS and iPadOS, but not macOS.

I did some research with my agent, the issue should be what @Dan Peake described: “at server side metadata uses the single quotation mark character (U+2019) instead of the normal apostrophe character“
And the reason why iOS/iPadOS cannot search for the term is because if you type U+2019 in iOS textfield, it normalizes the text automatically to normal apostrophe, meanwhile macOS doesn’t do this.
I think the right place to fix it in principle is the server, proper search folds punctuation on both the index and the query, which would also solve the reverse case (curly
’in metadata, straight'typed). A client can only ever half-fix this. There’s feature request already:https://features.jellyfin.org/posts/4034/match-curly-apostrophe-and-straight-apostrophe-when-searching-unicode-search

Hi @ssilencio , you mentioned it’s issue on iOS/iPadOS only, but actually code around this search experience is entirely shared with macOS, could you double check if it works on macOS ?

Hi, i’m so sorry, I didn’t get notified of your reply. I checked it by chance and saw you replied months ago.
I’ve checked and here is the behaviour
IPhone
It won’t find I Don’t Wanna Be Me whether I use apostrophe or not.
iPad
It won’t find I Don’t Wanna Be Me whether I use apostrophe or not.
macOS
It finds I Don’t Wanna Be Me providing I include the apostrophe int the search. Without the apostrophe it finds nothing.
I see you’ve marked the feature as rejected, I assume because I didn’t reply. Is this feature still something you would consider please? I love this app, but use it mainly from my iPhone and iPad. For macOS I listen directly via Jellyfin.
Also the other comment are character sets, my music metadata is tagged via Musicbrainz before it goes in my library, so I think the metadata is correct.

The problem here is probably in your metadata/tags. I’ve noticed that a lot of metadata uses the single quotation mark character (U+2019) instead of the normal apostrophe character. This is super annoying and also wrong, so I would definitely recommend fixing your tags if you can.
That said, I do think it would be fantastic if Finer was able to recognise this and make sure that searches contain results for both of these characters. It would also be really useful if searches for “dont” returned results with apostrophes - just totally ignore those characters!
